He’s Not Afraid of Our Mess

A few weeks ago I was playing with my oldest son in his kinetic sand box. As he was playing, the sand had begun to get all over the place. In the moment I was tempted to say, “Noah! you are making a mess.” Before I could even get those words out of my mouth the Lord whispered, “Well i’m not afraid of your mess, Jason.”

We tend to think that our lives to need to be as tidy as possible and that if we make a mess out of it, God will shout, “get this mess cleaned up or else!” This is not how our Abba deals with us. His dealing with us only comes through the revelation of His son and us being in him.

Yahweh stepped into time and space through his son Jesus. He didn’t just come to clean up the mess that we made of our lives, he came and joined us in our mess to help us truly understand who his father is.

I often think that because I make a mess of certain areas of my life, I believe that He will not deal with it or that His dealing of me will be one of harshness. But there is good news. Yahweh deals with me and you the same way He dealt with Adam. He went searching for him, looking for connection and intimacy.

As Adam and Eve’s identities were interrupted by the deception of the serpent, they began to hide themselves from the Father. Soon after, He comes looking for Adam:

“Then Adam and his wife heard the sound of Yahweh-God passing through the garden in the breeze of the day. So, they hid among the trees concealing themselves from the face of Yahweh-God. Then Yahweh-God called Adam’s name and asked, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:8-9 TPT

Instead of Adam running to his father when he made a mess, he hid in shame. The beauty of this story is that God comes looking for Adam. Why? Because Adam belongs to God.

He does the same with us. The fact that He comes searching for you and me means that we belong to Him as well.

We often think that we have to cross some chasm to go and find God, but in reality He has come for us. He’s come for us through the incarnation of His Son, Jesus. I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be pursuit on our end, but what I am trying communicate here is that we don’t have to go looking for our Papa any longer. He is right here, right now, in our world, in our struggles, in our successes as well as the mundane moments. We just need to turn our hearts toward Him, but not by some form of striving or disciplinary formation.

Apostle Paul says, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

Condemnation will try to convince you of who you are not by blaming and shaming you for making a mess, but being wrapped in Christ eliminates the effects of condemnation over our lives.

Right now, we are free from condemnation. Right now, we are free from guilt. Right now, we are one with God and wrapped in the Trinity. Now let’s walk with God unashamed.
